France are one of the leading nations in international football and French soccer jerseys are among our bestselling kits each year. They were one of only four teams to participate in the first ever FIFA World Cup Finals in 1930. The pinnacle of French football history came in 1998 when, as hosts of the World Cup, they stunned favourites Brazil 3-0 in the final to lift the Jules Rimet Trophy for the first time in their history.
Two years later, they won the Euro 2000 Finals, emulating their European Championships victory in 1984 which was inspired by legendary striker Michel Platini. Nicknamed Les Bleus because of their distinctive blue home jersey, France have had a number of star players over the years including Patrick Vieira, Zinedine Zidane, Lillian Thuram, Laurent Blanc, Robert Pires and Thierry Henry.
France hosted the Euro 2016 tournament and reached the final after an impressive campaign, but they lost the game 1-0 to Portugal after a late goal from substitute Eder. They remain one of the highest ranked FIFA nations and are always contenders in major tournament finals.
The French national team home jersey is based on the colours of the national flag which is known as the tricolore. The flag is comprised of blue, white and red which is replicated on the team’s kits. The blue jersey is paired with white shorts and red socks and is one of the most distinctive international football shirts. The colours were first worn in France’s first official international match against Belgium in 1904 and have remained the colours of the national team ever since, with few exceptions.
For a brief period between 1909 and 1914, the French wore a white jersey with blue stripes. In the 1978 World Cup match with Hungary, a kit clash saw France play in green-and-white striped jerseys borrowed from local side Atletico Kimberley.
France’s away kit is generally white with navy detailing although in recent years they have also opted for a red away jersey. It normally does not deviate from the colours of the national flag, although in today’s commercial world, the manufacturers are increasingly open to trying out more adventurous designs, regardless of how this is perceived by the public!
Arguably the most famous away jersey was the 2006 version, which became infamous after Zinedine Zidane’s career ended in disgrace when he was sent off for head butting Marco Materazzi in a World Cup final defeat on penalties by Italy.
The first France replica shirts available for sale to the public were manufactured by Le Coq Sportif for the 1966 World Cup Finals in England. It was a partnership which lasted until 1971, when Adidas agreed a new sponsorship arrangement, which would last for 38 successful years.
In 2011, Nike took over the contract after agreeing a 7 year contract worth 320 million euros, which was comfortably the highest value deal of its kind at that time. The first French kit made under the Nike brand was released for Euro 2012, although France suffered a disappointing exit at the quarter final stage.
Such is the popularity of the French national kit, that there is a huge demand for shirt printing. With name and numbers available for all the leading French stars past and present and even your own custom printing, our choice of French shirt printing is a major factor in France jerseys being one of our bestselling football kits.
With the signing of the contract of Nike and a need for the sportswear giants to claw back their mammoth investment, an extensive range of clothing and training wear was released for sale to the public. Through UKSoccershop’s French football store, supporters can now get their hands on virtually anything they can think of!
Tracksuits, polo shirts, training jerseys, t-shirts, hoodies, sweat tops, training pants, training shorts, leisure tees, windbreaker jackets and replica tees are just some of the items available to buy online in adult and kids sizes.
